What is our goal?
As part of World Wetlands Day 2026, MedWet is launching the #CultureForWetlands campaign to celebrate and recognise our cultural heritage and traditional knowledge as integral to the future of Mediterranean wetlands.
Make your voice heard for wetlands
Whether you are a decision-maker, student, scientist, manager or simply someone who cares about nature and their community, your voice matters. Join a diverse group of people from different countries and backgrounds to promote our Mediterranean culture.
How can you get involved?
We invite YOU to take part in the campaign by sharing a cultural heritage element that is linked to the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands, such as:
- Cultural, spiritual (rituals and traditions), aesthetic, gastronomic, recreational, and educational practices;
- Water management practices, construction techniques, and heating methods (wood, reeds, earth, peat, etc.);
- Agricultural production (grasslands, grazing, rice cultivation, market gardening, viticulture, salt production, reeds, etc.), as well as fisheries and shellfish production (fishing, aquaculture, crustaceans, shellfish).
1 – Share your message
Please send the following by email or via WeTransfer to info@medwet.org:
- A photograph illustrating the cultural heritage you wish to highlight;
- The title of the cultural heritage / traditional knowledge;
- The country and name of the wetland concerned;
- Your first and last name, and your organisation (if applicable);
- A short description of the cultural heritage / traditional knowledge and its link to the wetland (maximum 200 words).
2 – We will ensure its dissemination
MedWet will handle the editing and ensure that your message reaches the right audience through MedWet’s social media channels during the celebration of World Wetlands Day.
A compilation may also be presented at Mediterranean events, giving further visibility to your voice.
For participants who are minors in their own country, please provide a dated and signed certificate with:
- “Name of the organisation” or “name of the parent” is responsible for the materials submitted to MedWet featuring the child or group of children (e.g. a class);
