MEDASSET, Nature Conservation Egypt and the Marine Environmental Center of Suez Canal University are pleased to inform you of the release of the peer-reviewed report entitled “Egypt’s Bardawil Lake: safe haven or deadly trap for sea turtles in the Mediterranean?”

The report presents the findings of a joint rapid survey undertaken in Bardawil Lake in November 2012 following media reports of “mass deaths of sea turtles” in October 2012. Recommendations for decision making and conservation planning that will safeguard this important Mediterranean coastal wetland and protect sea turtle populations in these waters, are also described.

Although the main topic of the publication focuses on sea turtle conservation, the report is also relevant to wetland protection, bird conservation, sustainable fisheries management and local development in this Ramsar wetland.
