Objectives
  • Reinforce the participating countries’ capacity building on a national level, in order for them to be able to implement policies for the conservation and wise use of their wetlands, while taking into consideration the ecological functions of specific sites and promoting a trans-regional cooperation about the use of specific tools and methodologies.
  • Reinforce capacity building at the local level by strengthening the potential socio-economic assets of the sites; to improve the economy of the local communities while taking into consideration the wise use of their natural resources
Implementation
  • Three Focal Units established in each of the three partner countries staffed with executive secretaries.  These units constituted the platform for cooperation of the three main actors on whom the conservation of wetlands is based: public administration, non-governmental sector and academic/research.
