Information Webinar on the Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation: Strengthening the Participation of Mediterranean Cities

Context

Wetlands play a key role in environmental resilience and in supporting the well-being of urban and peri-urban populations. To recognise and encourage cities’ commitment to the protection and sustainable management of wetlands, the Ramsar Convention has established the Wetland City Accreditation Scheme. Momentum around this accreditation is growing steadily, with 74 cities currently accredited worldwide, including 14 in the Mediterranean. However, this regional dynamic still needs strengthening, particularly in light of the ongoing call for applications, which runs from the end of March 2026 to 31 December 2026. Cities will have this period to prepare and submit their applications, with results expected to be announced at the Ramsar Convention COP16 in 2028, in Panama.

In this context, MedWet is organising an information webinar to support potential candidate cities, particularly in the Mediterranean region, and to strengthen their understanding of the accreditation process.
