“The MedWet Initiative: 20 years of regional cooperation”- Successful completion of the Ramsar COP11 side event

On Sunday 8th July 2012, during the Ramsar COP 11, MedWet held its side event “The MedWet Initiative: Twenty years of regional cooperation”. It took place during lunch time, from 13:15-14:45 in room number 3, in the Palace of Parliament, the Ramsar COP11 conference venue. It was attended by over 40 Ramsar COP11 participants and was greatly supported by members of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee and the Mediterranean region as a whole.

The side event focused on our work in the fields of regional cooperation, increasing knowledge on Mediterranean wetlands and ways of raising awareness of wetlands in younger generations

Part I: International Symposium on Water and Wetlands in the Mediterranean (Agadir, February 2012).
– A short presentation of the outputs of this important event and their use for guiding future action and creating synergy.

Part II: ‘Mediterranean Wetlands: Challenges and prospects”
– The Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory will present the key results and messages of their first report on the status and trends of wetlands in the Mediterranean basin. It will include a short film presentation.

Part III: Wetlands environmental education: Focusing on the future
– A presentation of the role games and activities developed by MedWet for raising the awareness of young students in wetland issues. It will include the screening of two short films.
