Fourth Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European Countries, Slovenia, 10-11 December 2007

The 4th Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European Countries will aim, among other things, to contribute to the implementation of the Mediterranean Component of the EUWI (MED EUWI) and its Joint Process with the EU Water Framework Directive (WFP), by reviewing recent progress and discussing efforts to substantially enhance the coordination of all key and interrelated water activities in the region.

One of the key objectives of the conference will also be to serve as an informal preparatory opportunity, in terms of procedure and substance, for the proposed Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Water envisaged for late 2008.

It follows the 3rd Conference of the Water Directors of the Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European Countries that took place in Athens in 2006.

Providing the opportunity to discuss and review ways to better promote co-ordination on water-related activities in the Mediterranean region, the Athens conference concluded that “the organization of a Special Euro-Mediterranean and Southeastern European countries’ Ministerial Conference on Water should be favourably further explored”.
