Elles repr\u00e9sentent une importante richesse et contribuent au fait que la m\u00e9diterran\u00e9e repr\u00e9sente le 2<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup> hotspot mondial de biodiversit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Les zones humides repr\u00e9sentent une solution bas\u00e9e sur la nature pour la lutte contre les changements climatiques \u00e0 travers les divers services qu\u2019elles fournissent. Malheureusement, et malgr\u00e9 leur importance, elles restent parmi les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes les plus menac\u00e9s au monde \u00e0 cause du changement climatique et des activit\u00e9s humaines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Projet Med-ESCWET\u00a0: l\u2019\u00e9valuation \u00e9conomique au service de strat\u00e9gies d\u2019adaptation fond\u00e9e sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le projet Med-ESCWET, cofinanc\u00e9 par la Fondation MAVA et la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco, vise \u00e0 promouvoir les services \u00e9cologiques fournis par les zones humides afin que leur r\u00f4le d\u2019amortisseur climatique soit int\u00e9gr\u00e9 dans les strat\u00e9gies nationales d&rsquo;adaptation au changement climatique en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. Men\u00e9 par le Plan Bleu en partenariat avec\u00a0 la Tour du Valat,\u00a0ce projet contribue \u00e0 sensibiliser les d\u00e9cideurs sur l\u2019importance de prot\u00e9ger ces \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes fragiles au travers de 4 cas d\u2019\u00e9tude m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ens.<\/p>\n<p>Quatre\u00a0 zones humides ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9es par le comit\u00e9 de pilotage du projet pour faire l\u2019objet d\u2019une \u00e9tude sur l\u2019un des services \u00e9cologiques d\u2019adaptation retenu\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>le service de protection c\u00f4ti\u00e8re assur\u00e9 par l\u2019\u00e9tang de Vic (H\u00e9rault, France, 1900 ha)\u00a0;<\/li>\n<li>le service d\u2019\u00e9cr\u00eatement des crues assur\u00e9 par la plaine inondable de Lonjsko polje (Croatie, 22 280 ha) ;<\/li>\n<li>le service de s\u00e9questration du carbone assur\u00e9 par les tourbi\u00e8res de Yeni\u00e7a\u011fa (Turquie, 384 ha) ;<\/li>\n<li>le service de s\u00e9questration du carbone assur\u00e9 par la lagune de Burullus (\u00c9gypte, 41000 ha).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15612\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a Burullus<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9tude de chaque site comporte une phase d\u2019\u00e9valuation biophysique et une phase d\u2019\u00e9valuation \u00e9conomique du service \u00e9cosyst\u00e9mique.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet Med-ESCWET se situe \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re de la recherche sur deux aspects :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>les \u00e9valuations \u00e9conomiques de services \u00e9cosyst\u00e9miques sont un exercice pluridisciplinaire (associant m\u00e9thodes biophysiques et \u00e9conomiques) ;<\/li>\n<li>les \u00e9valuations \u00e9conomiques habituelles ainsi estim\u00e9es conduisent \u00e0 une valeur \u00e9conomique dite \u00ab totale \u00bb, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire englobant l\u2019ensemble des services de la zone \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude. \u00c0 l\u2019inverse, le projet Med-ESCWET cherche \u00e0 isoler la valeur \u00e9conomique d\u2019une dimension unique du service \u00e9cosyst\u00e9mique rendu pour chaque zone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Une strat\u00e9gie reconnue \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle internationale\u00a0: l\u2019adaptation fond\u00e9e sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>D\u2019apr\u00e8s les pr\u00e9visions du Groupe d&rsquo;experts intergouvernemental sur l&rsquo;\u00e9volution du climat (GIEC), le changement climatique engendrera en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e une multiplication des \u00e9v\u00e9nements extr\u00eames (inondations, canicules, s\u00e9cheresses..). Si de nombreuses \u00e9tudes sur l\u2019impact du changement climatique sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes existent d\u00e9j\u00e0 et sont en cours, il semble que, \u00e0 l\u2019inverse, l\u2019\u00e9tude du r\u00f4le des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes comme outil d\u2019adaptation reste encore largement \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper. Or, certaines donn\u00e9es\u00a0indiquent qu&rsquo;utiliser la capacit\u00e9 de la nature \u00e0 absorber ou contr\u00f4ler les incidences dans les zones urbaines et rurales peut \u00eatre une m\u00e9thode d&rsquo;adaptation plus efficace et moins co\u00fbteuse que de se concentrer sur les infrastructures physiques. A ce titre, des institutions internationales comme l\u2019UICN mettent en avant cette strat\u00e9gie d\u2019adaptation bas\u00e9e sur les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Une approche novatrice \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Afin de sensibiliser les d\u00e9cideurs \u00e0 l\u2019importance des zones humides pour l&rsquo;adaptation au changement climatique,\u00a0le projet Med-ESCWET entreprend de valoriser ces services d\u2019att\u00e9nuation (par la s\u00e9questration de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre) et d\u2019adaptation face aux risques naturels (inondations, s\u00e9cheresses, submersion) de mani\u00e8re \u00e9conomique, pour \u00e9clairer le processus d\u00e9cisionnel.<\/p>\n<p>A l\u2019\u00e9chelle m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne, il existe \u00e0 ce jour peu d\u2019\u00e9valuations \u00e9conomiques des services \u00e9cologiques rendus par les zones humides, particuli\u00e8rement en ce qui concerne les services de r\u00e9gulation.
