Biodiversity into action! The importance of governance mechanisms in managing marine protected areas (MPAs)

Date: 17 may 2022, 9h30 – 13h

Description:

Have you ever experienced issues or even failures in protecting biodiversity due to conflict of interest? If so, what kind of tools have you used to solve the situation? With what results?

This workshop, organized by the Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative (MedWet), is an unmissable opportunity for learning how the Environmental Contract works, also in different contexts, opportunities and challenges in its implementation, as well as getting to know different governance approaches to enhance biodiversity’s protection. We will share the main outcome from the Tune-Up project « Promoting multilevel governance for tuning up biodiversity protection in marine areas », and from other similar initiatives together with the most accredited organizations working with Mediterranean MPAs.

The workshop will provide a moment for exchanging knowledge and discussing challenges and solutions of co-management and integrated governance of marine and coastal areas.

The event is open to all professionals in the sector involved in coastal management, MPAs governance, and biodiversity protection.

Join the conversation on how to improve the governance models even further for the future.
