Video – collaborating across borders for improving the governance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean

In the framework of the Tune Up Interreg Med Project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, MedWet bas produced a short video to present the methodology implemented in the project, which is based on multi-stakeholders’ engagement in decision-making and the adoption of voluntary contracts as a participative governance tool for the protection of marine areas and their biodiversity.

This video aims at disseminating Tune Up’s results to policy makers, communicating with relevant Mediterranean stakeholders and engaging in community building and networking.

Successfully co-managing Marine Protected Areas relies on participatory and multidisciplinary approaches that unfold at different scales and levels. In the video, our international partners namely MedPan, Conservatoire du littoral, Plan Bleu and collaborators from the Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community – Interreg Med, explain how to promote community engagement to achieve sustainable development and enhance marine biodiversity protection at the same time.

It’s all about building synergies! Participation is key, because we are all in the same boat. This is essential to the long-term conservation of these valuable natural areas!
