As part of the project “Wetlands sentinels in the Maghreb: the MedWet Network of Civil Society in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia”, funded by the MAVA Foundation, two training sessions on “Monitoring and evaluation of wetlands and protocol for monitoring the priority indicators of the Wetlands Sentinels Network in the Maghreb’’ was organized:
- In Tunisia: on 6-9 December 2016 in Hammamet, by WWF Tunisia, in cooperation with the Directorate General of Forestry (DGF).

This training follows two preliminary workshops (November 2015 and October 2016). It is the last step before implementing the monitoring of these indicators.
Following the two participatory workshops organized since November 2015, this training session peruse three objectives:
- Confirm the objectives of the “Sentinels project” and articulation with national actions¡
- Confirm the monitoring and evaluation dimensions for conservation and development and current national and international frameworks and references; and
- Training in the use of the Material Safety Data Sheets of the first indicators identified by the project and on monitoring protocols.
As part of the vision of the sustainable management of wetlands in Tunisia: “Tunisian wetlands are preserved and valued through rational use as a national natural heritage that contributes to the sustainable social and economic development of present and future generations’’, there are three strategic objectives to be reached: a) to better know the Tunisian wetlands; b) to strengthen the frameworks governing the governance of wetlands; and c) valorization of Tunisian wetlands through rational use.
