Update on the status of Sites on the List of Wetlands of International Importance

Note from the MedWet Secretariat

The following information on the situation of Ramsar Sites in MedWet countries has been extracted from the report of the Ramsar Secretariat to the 52nd meeting of the Ramsar Committee (See full document here)

A very good news announced at the Standing Committee was the Ichkeul Lake in Tunisia has been finally removed from the Montreux Record, “The record of Ramsar sites where changes in ecological character have occurred, are occurring, or are likely to occur.” This has been possible thanks to the efforts of the Tunisian government to address the problems that had been affecting the lake for a long time and that have now been resolved.

Concerning Ramsar Advisory Missions (RAM) in MedWet countries, a RAM was sent to the Ramsar Site Laguna di Venezia : Valle Averto, in Italy.
