At its extraordinary meeting held in Arles on 3 April 2014, the MedWet Steering Group proposed to the Ramsar Secretary General and the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee members, to endorse the decision to select Delmar Blasco as the new MedWet Coordinator.

Delmar Blasco has been living and working in Catalonia since 2003 as free-lance consultant, and has executed major evaluation missions for UNEP-MAP, GEF projects and other international organisations. He is a Spanish and Argentinian citizen and well known in the Mediterranean and globally, as he was the Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention.

Delmar Blasco has played a key role in the development and operation of the Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative (MedWet), by providing guidance and substantial funding.
