The 11th Meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee (MedWet/Com1took place on the 5th July between 14:00- 17:00, in parallel with the Ramsar COP11 in Bucharest, Romania. The three hour meeting as held inside the Palace of Parliament, the COP11 conference venue, in room «Nicolai Iorga». The working documents and conclusions of the meeting can be downloaded from the MedWet website.
The meet began with a short report of MedWet activities since the 10th Meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee (MedWet/Com10) which took place in Bastia, Corsica in June 2010. It continued with an analysis of the achievements until now on the MedWet Strategic Workplan 2009-2012, as agreed in MedWet/Com9 (Changwon, South Korea). Future plans and budgets for the next triennium were presented and discussed, as well as, crucial issues of MedWet financing and new directions. One hour was dedicated to the Advisory Board meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory, where the MedWet/Com was asked to give feedback on the first technical report of the MWO “Mediterranean Wetlands Outlook, 2012’ and provide guidance for the future of this major MedWet tool which aims to increase knowledge on the Mediterranean wetlands and the challenges they are facing. Finally, the recruitment process of the MedWet coordinator along with any other remaining issues was discussed.
