The MedPAN network is looking for a Scientific Officer to work in the MedPAN headquarters in Hyeres, France. The contract will be permanent and will involve extensive travelling in Mediterranean countries. The Scientific Officer will be assisted by a Project Officer for the regional workshops and the management tools, a Project Officer for the database, and a Communication Officer for the distribution and dissemination to the scientific publications. Since 1990, the MedPAN network brings together the managers of Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and supports them in their management activities. The MedPAN organization became a legally independent structure at the end of 2008 and staffed its permanent secretariat at the end of 2009. The purpose of the organization is to promote the creation, perpetuation and operation of a Mediterranean network of Marine Protected Areas.
The network is a resource for MPA managers to get informed, share experience, expertise and thoughts. It contributes to achieving the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), the Barcelona Convention, in particular its protocol relating to Specially Protected Areas and Biological Diversity in the Mediterranean (Barcelona, 1995), and other regional instruments (ACCOBAMS, …). MedPAN also contributes to the implementation of related European policies (Habitats Directive, Marine Directive, Common Fisheries Policy, Maritime Policy…).
