An International conference of Mediterranean temporary ponds will take place in Menorca, Spain from 5th to 9th of May 2009. Organized by the Island’s Council of Menorca and the Balearic Island’s Government, the event aims at providing a platform for sharing experiences and knowledge about ecology, management and conservation of temporary ponds. Due to their impressive biodiversity but also to their fragile state, temporary ponds are classified as priority habitats by the “Habitats Directive”. Being in addition a scarce habitat in the Mediterranean basin makes temporary pools one of the habitats that merits attention of the conservation community in the Mediterranean region.
