Bert Lenten, Executive Secretary of the UNEP/ AEWA Secretariat, writes: “The African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (UNEP/AEWA), together with the Convention on Migratory Species (UNEP/CMS), launched the first World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) in April 2006 in Kenya.
WMBD 2006 was celebrated in 46 countries worldwide. It was envisaged at the time of the launch that WMBD would be celebrated annually, and I’m pleased to inform you that the second WMBD is planned to take place on the weekend of 12-13 May 2007. Attached you will find a short announcement . . . which we would like to kindly ask you to circulate and feature in your own electronic or print media resources a.s.a.p. The WMBD Web site is active from 1 April 2007. Thank you for your help and support & we look forward to celebrating and sharing this global event with you!”
