Organized by UNEP MAP in collaboration with the Environmental Remote Sensing Regional Action Center (ERS/RAC), a six day workshop was held in Rome, 1-5 June, combining several expert meetings related to environmental information in the context of information system tools as well as environmental media. Commemorating 30 Years since the establishment of the UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan, a Mediterranean Environmental Award, featuring a competition of films addressing environmental issues was launched as part of the workshop.

The Media and NGO sections of the workshop were attended by the MedWet Communications Officer, Ms Sofia Spirou. Headed by Mr Illuminato, president of ERS RAC, panels of these workshops included Mr Grewlich, member UN High level panel o­n Information and Communication Technology, Ms Paradisi, Secretary General of the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM). Discussion topics included the need to provide more information o­n environmental trends in the Mediterranean as well as to stimulate creativity in the means employed by media to convey environmental information within the Mediterranean.

Once available, conclusions of the meeting,  will appear o­n the website of (ERS/RAC) while a decision o­n the winning film of the Mediterranean Environmental Award Competition will be made in time for the Fourteenth Meeting of the Barcelona Contracting Parties, to be held in Slovenia in November 2005
